But yes, I suspect that it would be good for more people to have a deeper appreciation for just what compilers can do!

Well, if you do malignant races, at least you are true to yourself and others ;)

It means that one needs to do _very_ global reasoning to "prove" that a store is atomic and that reasoning will be _very_ fragile.
