I agree, the balance is very skewed. The award is determined by voting among an open community of members, after an open nomination process, so we should start by getting more women nominated. Former award winners get the same votes as everyone else btw: 1 each

+1 to more noms, but a popular vote in a community with historical biases is more likely to entrench those biases rather than undo them (as we're seeing). IMO awardees should be selected more thoughtfully, and you awardees might be in a position to push for proactive changes.

Could not agree more - it’s absolutely horrible

I have complained as was basically told to piss off - took my award down from my wall and don’t list it as an award anymore https://t.co/4L11KmW2qJ https://twitter.com/phylogenomics/status/1107717462265458688?s=21 …

There are more Eisens than women

No one's asking for my opinion, but I'm giving it anyway
Past awardees create a letter with requests to the award committee on reducing gender bias in the selection process, including transparency on selection stats -- letter should be reviewed/edited by WSTEM and oSTEM orgs -
I agree. We’ve already started discussing letter.

In science, system is extremely rigged against gender balance. I had terrible experience. About an award from Berkeley Lab in the past, here's my horrible, horrible experience blogpost. There is no winning this game for women who are scientists.https://physicalscientificcomputing.com/blog/my-funny-experience-at-berkeley-lab-part6/ …
