I got vaccinated!!! 😭🎉 As much as I LOVE VACCINES and am so grateful for this, I’m also the biggest needle phobe so I had a LOT of anxiety leading up to my appointment. Here are some lessons learned & things I wish more people knew about needle & medical anxiety 🧵 1/18

I'm back from a week at my mom's house and now I'm getting ads for her toothpaste brand, the brand I've been putting in my mouth for a week. We never talked about this brand or googled it or anything like that. As a privacy tech worker, let me explain why this is happening. 🧵

“I’m just 10” This will not get any better if this is how the next generation is having to live, and are being treated. Ask yourself, how generous of spirit could you be, going forward if you were this 10 year old. The power differential needs to be moderated.

The longer I'm in academia, the more I see a resemblance between our field and professional sports. But I think folks in pro sports understand and embrace the competitive aspect and difficult parts of training in a more honest and healthier way. This advice resonated:

Listing out your priorities is not the same as prioritization. Prioritization happens every time you make a choice to do A or not A, or A instead of B. Whether your prioritization reflects your list of priorities depends on each and every choice you make.

I’m heartbroken to lose my brother, my consigliere, and my scientific idol. The world could use more of his courage, humor, and his relentless optimism to make the world a better place.

My wife wasn’t thrilled when I put this Lego Millennium Falcon on our wedding registry. To not seem completely self-indulgent, I told her I’d wait until we had kids to build it. Today, after 10 patient years, the adventure begins.

It has been 20 months, almost to the day, since I started to press for more inclusive language around gender/sexuality in the mandatory online anti-sexual harassment & anti-racism trainings at my university. I had no idea it would end like this. 1/n

I recently presented a chalk talk that had a separate section detailing my past, current, and proposed DE&I involvement. I hope more institutions adopt this format because it shows candidates their efforts/ideas are valued and enables the committee to gauge commitment to DE&I.
