The BBC wrongly identified a black female Labour MP, then the Evening Standard wrote a story about the BBC mistake and used a photo of a *different* wrong black female Labour MP, now the Standard is blaming major photo agency Getty Images who they say *also* made that mistake.

This is a funny idea. Reminds me of driving back from Dorset on August bank holiday - a convoy of cars, all following Google maps along the same narrow country lanes to beat the motorway traffic. Where's the rave?

As far as I'm aware, few US media orgs have heeded Jay Rosen's advice to "suspend normal relations" and "send the interns". Hard to imagine that happening here either FWIW, despite today's show of solidarity

One more great US import. Today's walkout is a promising sign there will be more push back from journalists here and a refusal to play this game. Let's hope so.

Mick Head is one of Britain's greatest songwriters, and it's been 20 years since he performed these songs live. The Red Elastic band live up to Shack. Last night in Hackney he made a few hundred middle-aged men very happy, playing a dozen songs from HMS Fable and Waterpistol.

Amazing to see Waad, Hamza and Sama on stage at the Royal Albert Hall collecting this BAFTA after wondering if they’d ever make it out of Aleppo alive. A phenomenal achievement.

Fascism, truth, big, law, love: a neat way into a visionary, contradictory thinker, too often reduced to lines from 1984 quoted out of context and/or misunderstood. Amazing how much they pack into these five 12 minute episodes.

"In the ultimate irony, Brexit has ceased to be a release from the EU and has become a release from itself." Bit masochistic reading today but who better to welcome us to Brexternity?

I'm minding my own business cooking dinner at 7:42. The boy strolls in talking: "I've done the maths and we leave the EU in three hours and eighteen minutes." Thanks, kid. "Is Britain going to break up, Dad?"

Remarkable piece from —for its argument, & its venue: "the only way to 'fix' a problem like the American prison system is to end it."

I have nothing original to say about the Trump-Kushner-Netanyahu plan. I just want to add my voice to those naming it for what it is: a racist plan for annexation and domination based on the combined extremism of two religions that makes bloodshed inevitable.

This will be one the great civil liberties battles in the coming years. The tech is already on the streets being tested, police forces are keen to use it, and the time to make the case that the risks far outweigh the benefits is NOW.

With all the shitty news in this world, I really like the idea that Malawi’s Rastas have something to cheer about this morning 🙌🏿☀️🇲🇼

This is mad. How Turkey's top striker fell out with Erdogan, was characterised as a "fugitive member of the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation" and ended up driving a cab in the US, within a decade of retiring from football.

Spent a chunk of my weekend reading Rob Smyth's over by over cricket report and this piece about Cantona. He's not on here, and he's not the sort of writer people pay tribute to on here, but he's one of my favourites: deep knowledge, good humour, insight.
