I keep a list of 600+ books marked "To Read" on Goodreads. When I sort by avg reviews, the worst rated book is Lethem's A Gambler's Anatomy. I adore Lethem, I'm reading it now. 50 pages in, it's great! Either (a) this is about to take a terrible turn or (b) Goodreads is 🤡.

Last time I was in this exact same scenario was Karen Russell's Swamplandia... And I understood all the consensus negativity by the end (though respectfully disagree)
