Dopamine neurons wear many hats (for example, reward, motivation, salience, action initiation). In our new paper, we show that individual dopamine axons in basal amygdala coming from the ventral tegmental area respond to both rewards and punishments

Our 2nd insula paper is out in ! We found that insular cortex represents current bodily state AND uses external cues to “simulate” future changes to bodily physiology – “How do I feel?” + “How will this make me feel?” More in THREAD…1/7

Excited to finally share our work! Out online: . We wanted to understand the interaction between neuronal activity and biochemical signaling in vivo. We made new CREB sensors that allowed us to track CREB activity in vivo at single cell resolution.

and they acquire responses to cues predicting these outcomes. Neurons in basal amygdala also acquire responses to these predictive cues and these cues motivate adaptive behaviors to the expected positive and negative outcomes.
