I used to feel and say exactly what you have just said - but after having my own son, I am very sympathetic to parents travelling with kids. If you're not happy with a screaming child in the cabin then I am more than happy to you to try and reason with them ;)

Until you have a child yourself, you would realise that you can’t talk reason to a baby. If they cry then the parent(s) will do what they reasonably can to calm them down but there will be times when there’s really nothing more a parent can do but to sit through it.
Nah it’s not my job to parent your spawn. People pay a lot of money to fly. Can’t control your kid? Don’t take it.
I'm not at all sympathetic with irresponsible parents. The children really are also victims here of the irresponsibility of those who chose to make long trips with children they themselves cannot control, and expect everyone else to just smile.
I used to feel the way you felt until I had my own child and all sense of awareness for other people just disappeared. Maybe I have been deafened by the crying children.
But what I'm legitimately not understanding is why parents care if someone who clearly doesn't want to sit around babies now has an option to not sit around babies? No one has explained what is actually wrong with that.
