I was just going to say the same thing! I thought Professor Hawkin's was an atheist. I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted a religious funeral..?

The church thing was my first thought when I saw the news earlier. Also the fact that the church folk are willing to do a service for a non-believer. But then the was awarded things by the Pope in his lifetime. Didn't seem to bother him then.
