He's correct, there is an extra $600 added to unemployment benefits regardless of state maximums. I'm on unemployment in California, where the maximum benefit is $450 and it adds on top that payout the $600 from the CARES Act.

It's not clear. The UI max is only calculated on the $450 payout X 33 weeks (max time to receive benefits). Each payment in the UI portal only shows the $450 max - taxes ($45). Then the amount shown on the payment details adds a phantom $600. Expecting $600 doesn't affect max UI.

I still want to see this point clarified somewhere. No idea how long the $600 payout lasts till either.
