Cuomo just announced they have enough beds and ventilators. How about even a slight hat tip to the President and Vice President and the flood of resources they poured into New York? Nothing.

Most bipaps have very little setting to adjust other than inhale exhale pressure so they can't do the function of a true vent in every situation, but they can work in a lot of situations and free up vents. NIVs pretty sure have every inv vent setting control

Go interview any RT. Knowing a bipap or niv can function as an inv vent in a pinch with a simple mod to filter is fairly common knowledge

Not only that but studies on doubling or quadrupling vents have gone back 10 yrs or more to use in a crisis.

Just lastly want to note im not an RT but have worked in medical before so i knew this. Its not hard to figure out if journalists were more concerned about journalism and not just tabloid headlines. I would even say Cuomo knew all of this. If he didnt he should fire someone.

heres an article to show discussion by NPR. Solving aerosol generation is part of the problem, which can be done (as evidenced by hospitals doing it). Not sure why NPR totally dismissed the use.

Guidance from the FDA allowing for the offspec use of CPAP/BIPAP devices as vents providing aerosol generation is solved. Also, and it may mention it, if they use non-invasive PAPs as invasive (intubation), have to solve inflow filtering issues since it goes straight to tissue.
