No moral. Just sharing my experience and frustration that AA could have easily given me an offer for the $275 I needed to spend, not an outrageous and unsubstantiated price of $1875. Would’ve saved me from taking this horrible trip.
You seem like a fine guy, but this is all on you. Terrible plan... for what? Airline status? Hahaha. This is in no way on American Airlines. To the contrary, what a great story American Airlines gave you. I feel like you should be thanking them!
My frustrations with American are with their ever-changing status rules. I was short by $275... let me pay the $275 (like they used to allow) and none of this would have happened

Not sure I believe this story. And why care so much about the status? That’s really the question. Is it that important to your life? Side note: switched to flying @Delta since @AmericanAir cancelled my daughter’s flight without telling her and tried to charge a rebooking fee.
could have flown to the nearest hub, had a 2 hr layover and flown back the same day and met the EQD, a powerbank also would have prevented this, seems like a rookie mistake all around.
The moral is Cabo is a dangerous, disgusting place! The only safe places there are the heavily guarded hotel compounds and even there I had small items stolen from my hotel room by staff. Never go!
You didn't "have" to. If you don't have the miles, you don't deserve the status. The chance to buy the status is already an accommodation. You aren't entitled to status.
Yea, he said he did have the miles. He hadn’t yet reached a new dollar amount threshold and was short by $275... but they wouldn’t let him just pay that amount, they wanted $1875. It’s a racket, but status is everything when flying so I don’t blame him for his effort.
