It's not the TIME Poll but still, I think Hong Kong protesters should have been POTY Apparently around 250,000 other people agree But POTY is an editorial choicepic.twitter.com/rSE91mGPWB

Tim, am I correct in saying that was a Today Show poll, not the actual Time poll?

Yes it says it in the first sentence of the tweet

Then what is the point of the tweet? It’s like taking a Breitbart poll and saying Trump clearly should’ve been Time’s POTY.

Usually you'd be right, it wouldn't be relevant at all but seeing as though Time themselves who don't release the exact results like the poll above said that Hong Kong protestors won and all climate activists together got less than 4.5% of the vote but still picked Greta anyway.pic.twitter.com/FetAMKuDYk

The point is how is someone who came in 5th on the top voting list, voted by the people somehow the most influential. You'd expect the person/group who mobalised the most voters had the most influence. For more context HK protestors got over 30% of vote, Greta got <4%.

Also why have an influential award where you decide to ignore the masses you asked to vote and instead decide within a small group from one team in one office who the world most influential person of the year is, how does that make sense.

All valid points. Perhaps they also factor in overall impact - to which Greta’s influence is worldwide. 🤷‍♂️

I mean they would want to factor in impact that's the idea of the award, the winner has the greatest impact good or bad on the world that year, they didn't pick Trump in 2016 because they liked him. Greta inspires some kids, the Hong Kong protestors inspired people far and wide.

Listen, what's Greta is doing is great, I never had that work ethic or drive for something I believe in when I was her age, I still probably don't. I respect that but in terms of actual impact she's done a lot less than thousands of scientists who are being ignored.
