One of the SIX officers who came over told me, “There are lots of homeless people with mental issues. We can’t bring everyone to the hospital.” I nearly lost it. She is a threat to herself and other and these officers have failed to do their duty.

UPDATE: An officer arrived to my mom's place to process the missing persons report... and on their way over, they spotted my sister standing on a corner a few blocks away just staring into space. I'm now home, but spoke to the officer over the phone and told him the situation...

I informed him that the first call I made I mentioned this had to do with someone mentally unwell. This officer was surprised to hear that a mental health evaluator was not dispatched with officers. He just called for one to come at 9:40pm. I first called police at 11:21am.

I am thankful this officer is treating my mother & the situation w/ the seriousness it deserves. My sister has been standing outside w/out food or water for nearly 10 hours. Now we must wait for the evaluator to come and determine whether she needs to be brought to the hospital.

UPDATE: The evaluator didn't come for some reason. The officer then offered to drive her to the hospital. She refused, so they left. She remains outside and will spend the night outside because no one can take her to the fucking hospital.

UPDATE: I received a call at 4:49am from UCLA ER. My sister apparently walked in saying she was having complications with a pregnancy. The hospital called me after she started telling them it was the government who impregnated her.

This has happened before, where she would be compliant to go to a hospital w/ us & then tell the ER nurse some bogus story about stomach cramps, MS, headaches - the pregnancy story is a new one. It’s as if deep down she knows she needs help, but for the life of her can’t admit it

Just found out my sister didn’t check herself in. My mom kept calling the 24hr psych line & eventually a paramedic drove to where my sister was still STANDING on the same corner @ 3am. She had urinated on herself so they brought her in. And then she told them the pregnancy story.

when I began my training as a psychologist I was shocked that mental health calls are handled by police. It makes no sense whatsoever, they do not have the knowledge, skills, or training to handle these situations.

I hope that she’s safe, and that you and your family can get the assistance you need. She needs to be in someone else’s hands now. I wish you strength and peace.
