I’ve just had to call the police on my sister now more times than I can count on my hands. She has been off meds for at least 8 months and every day off of them her brain continues to deteriorate. She threatened my mom and me. The police came and refused to take her to a hospital

People who haven’t been through this don’t get it. It’s an impossible situation that destroys the lives of everyone the MI person. The police are often sadly the only resource. If you mention that on Twitter you’re told never to call the police on MI persons because police=evil

If the family has even modest resources you’re SOL. I’ve called every agency and the requirements for involuntary treatment are so stringent they just apologize and hang up. We as a county need to do better and have an organized strategy for dealing with...

MI people that can’t function in society and provide respite for families that are in no way shape or form (mentally, physically, financially) equipped to handle the Sisyphean task of dealing with people with severe MI.
