21/ My dad had no other options. He didn't want to be a burden. He knew his health would not improve w/out being able to afford care. He knew there would be no job for someone his age and in his declining health. And because of this, he knew he was worth more dead than alive.

When did living become a burden to others? Why is it still bothersome? Your dad sounds like a rare gem: responsible, yet compassionate. This loss should not be yours alone; it is something for society to bear together.
Your sister's story also struck a chord with me as someone who suffers mental illness and has always been outwardly social, I can't even tell you the overwhelming sadness that comes with rejection and alienation. I really appreciate this today, always nice to know I'm not alone.
Andrew, we are strangers, but your family's story bears so much similarity to my own - & these five sentences? I carry this knowledge with me every single day. I lost my father to suicide at 63, in 2013. He died feeling exactly the same as your dad did. I'm so very, very sorry.

Andrew, my condolences. I am so sorry you had to go though this. My mother was in a vegetative state for 10 years. My former stepfather declared bankruptcy the week of her death. He too has some form of undiagnosed mental illness.
I don’t know you but my heart breaks for you. You are the best son ever. Your dad didn’t fail his family. I wish you peace.
How do we allow this to happen over and over?? These our elderly and ill!! When will we care? Only when it effect us directly?? None of us can be sure we won’t fall into a similar crises, y’all...
I really wanted to make deep an d insightful comment but just can’t. The whole thing is shit from start to finish. I’m so sorry for your dad who did everything in his power and went out thinking that he’d failed. We should be better than that.
I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is very difficult. I agree with all you said. Also addiction is another major issue. We all must lobby for change. Many prayers sent.
