"We have far more lovers than haters in this country. Those who hate mean business... now it's time for those of us who love to love with conviction. It is time for those of us to love to organize and it is time for those of us who love to mean business." @marwilliamson
"America is a very powerful country.... we can not afford for our conversation to be superficial/childish/irresponsible... because everything we do has consequences... What we do comes back to us... What our country does comes back to us..." @marwilliamson
"We are way too close to the cliff. We can't just back away from the cliff. We need to get out of the vicinity of the cliff. We're not living in a time where incremental change is needed - we need a serious disruption... and we need it now." @marwilliamson
Marianne is now speaking on the amoral American economy that has no human responsibility. "There is a disconnection from love and that is causing chaos. The political system has become a handmaiden to this system. This is an inversion to an aristocracy." @marwilliamson
Marianne is discussing the issues in America that will remain issues so long as short term profit maximization take priority over anything else. No healthcare No common sense gun legislation No fight on the climate crisis No peace creating agenda All to benefit corporations.
"Democracy does not just give us rights... it gives us responsibility... when those words were inscribed in the Declaration of Independence, 41 of them were slave owners.... that dichotomy has always been with us."
"It is our time. We're not the first generation to be facing assaults... let us not be the first ones to wimp out to get this country back on track. We need to have a very real and serious conversation... We are ready for this." @marwilliamson
Need to help kids in America's "domestic war zones"/violence in schools/communities/homes/these kids live in a state of trauma. Soldiers w/ PTSD is post traumatic/these kids suffer from present traumatic/We should be rescuing children/as if they're victims of a natural disaster.
We cap people's dreams. America is about unleashing people's dreams. Too much worrying now - what if I get sick? How am I going to pay for college? It is not supposed to be this way. It did not used to be this way. Bad policies made it this way & good policies can take it back.
"I feel most American's are not racist, but vastly uneducated on race"
The US is slipping backwards/racial disparity, voter suppression, crim justice/this is a character defect w/ the US since the beginning. It is time to put this horrific chapter to bed/We need a holistic approach to politics/We need to pay reparations (crowd gives standing ovation)
We need to have a serious conversation about: expanded economic opportunities for women/expanded education opportunities for children/reduction in violence against women/the amelioration of human suffering wherever possible.
For every $1 we spend for peace, we spend $1K for war. This is not a criticism of the military/These are political decisions/this is about $ for the sake of a few people/That has nothing to do with an agenda with peace/just an agenda of billions of dollars for defense contractors
That's how our country runs today <speaking on the military industrial complex>. This is not something to hate our country for. Whining is not an option. What is an option, is to rise up.
Taking questions from the audience....
Do you support the Green New Deal?
MW: Yes, I do.
How would you fight climate change?

.@marwilliamson announces her support for universal basic income.
Someone asked about student debt. He got into a great college & had to leave after his 2nd year b/c he couldn't afford it & is still paying off debt from those years. MW: Free college tuition for everybody. We're the richest country in the world...
