As an individual, yes they can donate. If the donation comes from the C3 or it’s accounts they risk losing their status. Holding a position on a board doesn’t take away ability to donate as an individual, as long as the money is kept separate.
Any tax experts out there that can answer a question for some friends of mine? I'm wondering if an individual who is the founding board member/senior advisor /tax preparer to a 501(c)(3) can contribute to a specific political party. Also, FEC filings require listing a donor’s employer, which does not necessarily mean the money came from the company listed, but an individual employed by that company. Legality of the donation depends on what bank account the donation came from (the individual or the company).
