    From Sam McBride in today's Belfast Telegraph. We need this sort of honesty about partition. If we could go back to the start of the last century few of us would welcome the setting up of the UVF, which started us on the road to partition.

    Well.

    I won’t share it in the case of inadvertently promoting it but a Galway restaurant has started a gofundme to launch a legal challenge against the vaccine pass. They can be safe in the knowledge that I shall not darken their door again.

    Great thread. The rise of telecommuting has been long in the making, but it was covid that pushed it over the tipping point.

    I was thinking there about what the meaning of working from home might be. Of all the changes wrought by Covid, it seems the most significant, long term. That’s because it’s really about changes in where people physically are- and that is one of civilisations’ big preoccupations.

    this is a good point: if you ask someone publicly for their paypal, a bot will clone your account and then block you so you can't see it:

    tweet by anonymised account: replying to @stimmyskye "You have a PayPal / Kofi?" one reply by me @stimmyskye: "I can't see it but probably a spam bot just replied to you" another reply by a cloned account @stimmyskye_ "I do ❤️ Pay Job nyota using PayPal.Me"
    okay so as some people don't seem to know this is happening: when someone replies to one of your posts asking you for your paypal / venmo / etc, there are bots that will IMMEDIATELY clone your account and reply with a payment link. they block your account in the same second.

    These things can all be true: 1) FB needs a major cultural shift around safety 2) That probably requires Mark Z to leave 3) The issues involved here are complex 4) Haugen is wrong on encryption 5) It's wrong for leaked documents to be used to support one side of this debate

    This is a bizarre claim that makes no sense on its face, and plays directly into the hands of the vehemently anti-encryption UK Home Office and US FBI/DOJ. If users in repressive countries don't have good encryption, that makes it *easier* for their governments to spy on them.
