  Congress played a part as well. The Street bundled mortgages, but historically majority of ppl paid their mortgages. Laws were passed to allow more buyers. Some lenders didn’t care if they will default due to no risk. Ppl bought houses they couldn’t afford. AIG downgraded. Crash.

  And some banks like @Chase never needed to take the bailout. They took the $,paid it back with interest, and got stuck w/ Bear Stearns and all their problems. Personally, I always said the bailout was a bad idea. I would have let AIG fail. Trust has no price tag. It’s invaluable.
