A submarine volcano located between the islands of Epi and Paama has awoken. Ships are being re-routed and the local population is on alert.

Gazing longingly at the forbidden bypass corridor at . It would be awesome if there was an easy option to not walk the pointless duty-free loop. The current setup is a triumph of retail desires over customer needs. #MelbourneAirport
It looks like one of the fringe parties in Australia has just realised that there’s a pandemic. Now they’re suspicious about the reduced death rate during the period of lockdowns and they’re running ads demanding to know why deaths have since gone up. #rocketscience

So much pain associated with Pell. I think that this particular aspect should not be forgotten. He used his position to promote sceptic views and therefore slow down action on climate change, despite having no expertise in the area.

Replying to @simonahac
Pell was also a climate science denier. Yet despite his regular pronouncements on the subject, he remained entirely clueless claiming at one point that Nitrogen was a GHG.

Ellie's impact has been huge - don't ever discount the impact of a mature monsoon low far exceeding its impact during its caterpillar stage as a tropical cyclone. Thank you also to the staff who have been tracking this (including for the map below) and issuing warnings.

For the better part of 3 weeks, ex-Tropical #CycloneEllie has been touring around the #NT and #WA, dropping intense rainfall throughout and resulting in flooding and significant road closures.

So if they both muster knights and archers in their respective dukedoms then advance at similar speeds, the battle will take place somewhere on the northern fringe of London, maybe in car park at the Waltham Cross Homebase

The monsoon is really pumping up over northern Australia over the next week. This is ACCESS Global model, 850 hPa winds. Other models are similar.

Brrrrr…

Much of the country will see dangerous cold over the next few days, and it will arrive suddenly with a powerful Arctic front. Travel may become difficult immediately behind the front with bursts of snow and gusty winds leading to sudden whiteouts, flash freezing, and icy roads.
The joke is all the sweeter when you have to work to get it.

This is one of the most painful things I’ve watched as a former public servant. Courage and integrity were missing in action during Robodebt, and that had massive consequences. At least, unlike her political master, she’s not trying to bluster through it.
Quote Tweet
#RobodebtRC With overwhelming evidence suggesting former DSS Deputy Secretary Serena Wilson pushed for income averaging knowing it was illegal, Justin Greggery KC is absolutely blistering as he squeezes out some inconceivable admissions.

Worth reading (including the chilling last paragraph...) for those seeking to understand the American disease and worried about it spreading to more civilised countries like Australia.
Academic spam is so badly written it's almost an art form. Does anybody really fall for it?

So if anybody is irritated by hearing 'Driving home...' one more time on the radio... do yourself a favour and listen to his wonderful other works. He'll make more sense to you then.

And finally, his song 'Easy Rider' (originally from 'Dancing Down the Stony Road') is just a devastating combo of slide guitar and vocals in homage to pain relief after major surgery.

For example, 'Joys of Christmas' on his wonderful 'Dancing With Strangers' provides a perfect counterpoint - ok, it's bleak, and might make you miserable, but if you think that 'Driving Home' is just a bit too sugary, this adds some bite to the mix and kicks off a brilliant album

Having a view that our laws and policies should respond to the physical realities of keeping our planet habitable is not a “radical”, “left wing”, or even a “greenie” view. It is a sensible view. It will protect our air, water, food, homes and climate. It should be bipartisan.
