In this piece for @BostonReview, I’ve collected my thoughts on the long term safety argument surrounding COVID-19 vaccination. We can be confident in these products and embrace their potential as our most effective tool, by far, for this challenge.https://bostonreview.net/science-nature/andrew-l-croxford-long-term-safety-argument-over-covid-19-vaccines …

Haven't read yet---thanks for writing it---but one very common objection is that we _can't_ know unless sufficient time has passed, since we don't have any empirical data on long-term effects. What that overlooks is mechanisms and similar systems, which we do know about.

In a general sense I do favor looking at empirical data, since relying on mechanism alone can be misleading, particularly in complex systems, but some people seem to think we shouldn't consider mechanism at all.

This is really good. I’ve shared this on Facebook. Only one of my friends is anti-vax as far as I know but I often see discussions with friends of friends and this responds to some of the points that are often raised.

Can you please explain how is it possible that I still have side effects four weeks after first dose of Pfizer? And suddenly my thyroid is over active despite having perfect blood work few days before the vaccine? Genuinely upset no one can help me. Will it go away?

Correlation ≠ Causation Suggest you talk to your doctor, your symptoms may, or may not have anything to do with your 1st dose, it may be something else that just happened at the same time. Either way, do seek professional medical advice.

A very good article, thank you. Sadly for some people it's TLDR; they probably need an infographic & sadly for some they are so far down the rabbit hole, no amount of sense will convince them to do the 1 thing that gives them the most protection from COVID 🤷

It doesn't make sense to take a vaccine attuned to an 18 month old transitional variant. Regen-CoV is still working prophylactically, so it's clear the the ceiling on VE has not fallen. The vaccine needs an update.
