I'm reading the code now. Chromium interface....we've strayed so far from god's light. This is awesome. Keep posting updates!

We've accepted Satan into our lives (and codebase). The CEF integration definitely isn't perfect but we're able to iterate on the UI super rapidly using common web technologies like React, which has been great.

This is darkness, but I'm glad someone else is diving in there and not me. You guys got a game idea planned?

Not really. We we're talking last night about maybe coming up with a super simple idea and trying to execute on it with the engine just to exercise more systems beyond the renderer.

A lot of the idea behind the engine isn't necessarily to build a game, but to learn a lot more about what goes into the low level systems (and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it!). There's just so much fun and unique and hard problems to explore in this space.

I love it! I'm just asking a ton of questions because I'm hype too!

Yeah! I'd love to get to a point where we can build out a full game loop in an editor, Unity or UE4-esque. That'd be super dope. Even if we didn't go that direction, building out a simple universal POC (like an FPS) to demo different common game concepts would be sick.

If we were to want to make a real game, though, we'd definitely start with an established engine. this would totally be suicide hahaha

re: CEF and JS interface, it's actually working pretty well IMO. It was a lot of work to integrate the framework, but the alternative (trying to build out any sort of UI that looks nice / is skinnable, behaves nice, and is easy to iterate on in C++) is just an absolute nightmare.

There are a ton of other questions of course (the big one being performance, which I'm actually not super concerned about). Having done the web thing for a couple years now, this was just a cool opportunity to try something new. :D

P.S. Would love to be proven wrong about UI in C++ being horrible to work with when getting into an even remotely complex case. definitely once (twice? thrice?) bitten, twice shy here hahaha
