When you already have an event to tack extra data onto and you also don't want to spend the time to write a proper serializer for a vector (screams internally). #gamedev #cpp #compositeengine cc. @andreduvoisinpic.twitter.com/J1JQzAzdK1

It's cool to see you guys working on an engine! Is it open source?

It's a ton of fun! Haven't quite decided on a license yet, but the repo is public:https://github.com/andreduvoisin/CompositeEngine …

Yeah, it has been a blast! I haven't written much c++ in my life and the problem space of games and game engines (mostly graphics) is super new to me, so every day is something totally new. Bridging JS and c++ with CEF for the UI is super interesting and exciting for me as well.

I'm reading the code now. Chromium interface....we've strayed so far from god's light. This is awesome. Keep posting updates!

We've accepted Satan into our lives (and codebase). The CEF integration definitely isn't perfect but we're able to iterate on the UI super rapidly using common web technologies like React, which has been great.

This is darkness, but I'm glad someone else is diving in there and not me. You guys got a game idea planned?

Not really. We we're talking last night about maybe coming up with a super simple idea and trying to execute on it with the engine just to exercise more systems beyond the renderer.

A lot of the idea behind the engine isn't necessarily to build a game, but to learn a lot more about what goes into the low level systems (and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it!). There's just so much fun and unique and hard problems to explore in this space.

Yeah! I'd love to get to a point where we can build out a full game loop in an editor, Unity or UE4-esque. That'd be super dope. Even if we didn't go that direction, building out a simple universal POC (like an FPS) to demo different common game concepts would be sick.
