Well... happy to accept pointers to convince me they do exist. As I said, the people responsible here in Germany say they don't have a solution.
Meanwhile, I don't see any evidence that renewables are not a viable option. But capitalism will fix it. Renewables are cheaper than nuclear, and don't require that much upfront investment either.

We're beyond that phase, cost has gone down dramatically. But I just checked the numbers again, renewables only win once you internalize the cost of CO2.

It's a bit of a long read, but thanks for the pointer. Right the beginning, speculating about the area of solar cells needed, has me sceptical. Concepts like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desertec exist.
