I think it's perfectly okay to mock + ridicule a large corp for bad security practice. But I've seen a number of tweets attacking employees. That's not okay. Please don't do that.

I won't mock or criticize an employee who says, "The official position of Corp. is that..." But when an employee makes statements that appear to be from themselves, even signing them with their name, how are they absolved from criticism?

Clearly, in this case, the question is whether the person has received the proper training to handle this kind of issue. Not their personal fault.

It's true that the company is wrong, and in fact there is no way to train someone how to explain things that have no explanation. But it's also true that when you take a job, you are responsible for what you do on that job. There's no "I was only following orders" defense.

Oh, in case of people pointing out security concerns to social media representatives, there is a straightforward playbook: "Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have forwarded your concerns to the responsible department. I'll follow up with their feedback soon."
