I'm at loss why some people believe a worm that spreads via SMB even needs an email vector.
Time to market, detectabity, effort... why bother with millions of vulnerable unprotected hosts online.

I don't see any disadvantage in combining the two. Maximize damage. Also, DB seems to believe that they've been compromised by mail.
