I used master too. Weird.
Apart from the current OpenSSL 1.1.1 prerelease version, Strongswan's "pki" tool might be an option for you - it can generate ed25519 certs, and even BLISS (a post-quantum crypto system) certs.
Does anyone out there have a working tool to generate X.509 certificates?
