If you have a lot of Twitter debates, you'll inevitably at some point be accused of holding a set of beliefs you don't because the person debating you saw some parallel, and it made them assume and ascribe a slew of other stances to you. 1/2

for example, I was accused of not caring about the environment because I was against focusing primarily on small-scale env. improvement projects, when I in fact was advocating for focusing on large-scale systemic issues that contribute/exacerbate those small issues. 2/2

The person debating me was so entrenched in defending their argument against climate-change deniers, "big oil", etc, that anyone arguing with them got lumped into that group.
