Ouch, daily? @levampyre would like to grow some in our garden, but we can only do weekly maintenance.
Are you pruning them? I thought, they have about the same amount of maintenance like tomatos. Don't they?
I'm only pruning leaves with signs of pests, not awkward branches that like to twist around in the wind. I spaced them too far apart and gave each plant their own pot. The pros seem to grow them almost two to a pot, this produces more fruit (better pollination).
I had one physalis plant last year and was happy without any maintenance besides watering. You just have to find the ones that are mature before they get bad. It grew more dense than on the picture, like a bush
