  1. Does it count if your only citation is from yourself?

Lots of connections to NALU and extensions, applied to free-form natural text

I think our "Neural Arithmetic Units" ICLR paper, provides a nice list of sanity checks when developing a new unit. Looking at: initialization, gradients, loss space, and redundant parameters, are generally important. I hope to see more of this :) -

Well, sorry to say that "Industry" is the legally correct choice. Although, if you ask nicely, they sometimes allow you to register as "Academic". Both "Non-profit" and "Student" require documentation.

As an Independent Researcher, what ticket fee would be fair for me to pay at an academic conference? (Asking for opinion, not rules).

Should have mentioned, they gave me a new card for the room. Also, "222" isn't actually my room number :D

Which reaseachers in Interpretability should I know? I want to expand my understanding to cross ideas from different ML fields.

I built my first python package: jupyterplot! Plot real-time results in Jupyter notebooks. It is founded on 's excellent python-lrcurve library. Effortless development and publishing with by and .

This does not solve the problem, but real solutions require time, which is often the constraint. This suggestion is a 10-minute effort that has a real impact.

After my blog post, many professors have asked me what the alternative is to hard-filtering by "1–2 publications in top ML venues". – My pragmatic opinion is: "just be honest, mention it on your website". Then students are empowered to decide whom they will spend their time on.

Q for *ML grad students*: who wrote your rec letters for getting into grad school? This is anonymous, so please answer honestly. A) I wrote at least one of my recs, which was approved by the "letter writer". B) I didn't write any of my recs. Inspired by comment by

Ramanujan’s first letter to G.H. Hardy reminds me of the difficulties faced by independent, often self-taught researchers working their way into the scientific research community.

When an airline inverts the exchange rate, you start to wonder what else they might have inverted. The real exchange rate is 1 DKK = 0.13 EUR 😳. /cc

Actually, re-reading the Adaptive Sparse Transformers by Gonçalo M. Correia, Vlad Niculae and André F.T. Martins , I found this nice observation of a BPE-merging head that I can't resist sharing with you as well. Isn't that a sweet head?👇 [3/3]
