A much fairer system would be to randomly assign each US county one of say ten voting days. This way each voter has an equal chance to weigh in but we don't have the problem of one single voting day making it hard for less popular candidates to get a hearing.

    4. (SOME) people are just in love with Andrew Yang. As a better-looking, funnier, and definitely taller Asian dude I am infuriated.

  3. I wonder if amazon package stealing opportunities suppress other types of crime? Presumably not a lot of people go mugging people at knifepoint if they can steal packages by just driving around?

  4. Unpopular opinion: the electoral college is hard to defend, but if somebody wins the popular vote and loses at the electoral college it means they catered to their existing base too much, and didn't reach out enough.

To Americans, there is nothing quite as shocking as seeing a parking space for sale at a price that would cover the cost of building it.

We just watched Cars with our daughter. It's remarkable how a world built entirely to cater to the needs of cars looks pretty much like most of the Southwest.

I love Super Bowl statistics. (“No team that has failed to convert at least 35% of their 3rd downs has gone on to win” etc.) They are the best introduction to p-hacking that can be found outside major journals.

I used to wonder why the interfaces on Star Trek are so clunky given that it's centuries in the future, but I guess that's just Enterprise software for you

Sharing vox pops of ardent Brexiteers who “can’t even say why they voted Leave” is a little unfair and misleading. Many of them can say exactly why. They just don’t want to do it on camera.

There is no truth to the rumors that Bernie is dropping out to endorse me.

The train docks with the accelerating carriage, and the connecting doors open. The passengers all move the carriage which will stop at their destination. The train accelerates back to cruise speed. So on a 8 carriage train, each carriage only stops every 8th station.

E.g. local station. Passengers board a single waiting carriage. When the train is a few miles away, the carriage closes its doors and accelerates to 20mph. The train slows down to 20mph and loses the last carriage, which comes to a stop in the station, where passengers come off.

We've been trialing different meal kits to find which one we liked best, and in the process spent about $250 to feed ourselves for a month. I hope silicon valley starts a few weworks for houses, so we can all live rent free for a few years until they go bankrupt.

I think at this point there are enough internet mattress companies offering multiple months of trial period that you could just buy them and return them every few months, never actually keep one, and stat comfortable for free at least until 2025.

If you're in OC and need to buy a used car or get one fixed, I would try him first!

Also shout out to Sava at Eze-Auto in Orange where we originally bought both our cars, which called me back outside of business hours, fixed me up with a tow, and quoted me a price to replace the radiator which is half of what I had found elsewhere.

...to my getting to where I am now. I'm guessing first gen students navigating higher ed or academia frequently encounter situations that leave them feeling much like I did looking at a few hundred bucks draining out of my radiator.Let's all try to be understanding to each other!

Presumably, had I grown with a dad that spent his sunday mornings tinkering with the ignition timing, I would know how to jack a car. On the other hand I had a lot of tangible and intangible knowledge about navigating higher ed, which presumably was a significant contributor....

...and cracked the bottom of the radiator, so now I'm out $60 to tow the car, and about $300 in parts and labor to get a new radiator into the car. Now here's the point. My parents have a PhD and a MA respectively, but are not particularly handy.
