If I may (I suppose this might get me in trouble)... I have this thought that many of these guys are too young to be so angry. They do not satisfy the "lifetime" part, which is the real work is being done. They still had time. 1/https://twitter.com/PennyRed/status/989072038278189059 …
this is a general reply. it feels like an idea that's merely different in degree and not in kind from incel opinions about why women won't have sex with them.

Maybe. But saying something is like in kind and different in degree is not sufficient as a refutation. Virtue ethics have always been concerned with the mean, not the category, have they not?
-
well just to make this point clear, let's grant the most extreme version of what you're saying: let's say there's a persistent, systemically-propagated set of biases against older inexperienced people. does that change what you must do to become a more attractive partner?
-
The things do not change. The questions are attainability and efficacy. To be a bit tongue in cheek, the question is whether there are conditions under which men can in fact have a "Last Fuckable Day" .
-
honestly, i don't think so. i truly don't. is there a point at which someone gives up on their ability to change, pursue things they want, and make a life that they love? maybe. the consequence of that could be they never have sex. but many have the first, and still the second.

the funny thing though is: "finding someone who doesn't care" about your imperfections is what we all have to do. all of us. no one gets to be universally desired. we're all fighting for intimacy and closeness with just a few folks. anyone who wants more is lying to themselves.
-
I think making the semantic differentiation between imperfection and abnormality would be warranted for my meaning here. Actual outlier problems.
-
sure. and I think that's what the original "incel" meaning had in store - it was coined by a queer woman who found dating extremely hard during high school and into uni.https://www.elle.com/culture/news/a34512/woman-who-started-incel-movement/ …

I saw someone bring that article up in a tweet yesterday. I passed on reading it then, guess I will give it a go now though.
