It's just more complicated than that. There is more history and complexity in explaining US and guns. Also, I'm not a gun owner.

The majority of Americans don't own guns. In my opinion, the lack of mental health care is as big of an issue.

Crucial difference with Europe & other developed nations is that people with mental health problems don't have unrestricted access to guns

Yes. It's a terrible, terrible combo. Add in angry political/racial/religious rhetoric and it's a recipe for disaster.

Personally don't agree with the gun laws in America, but that aside, I think using 'no guns on planes' as an argument is a little weak.
