The shooter was an officer at the local army base, I was enlisted cadet there at the time. Five victims were female volunteers at the base.

Över 30 år sedan. Jag trodde det var runt 20.
-
-
Mycket otäckt.

We dined with the volunteers for the week of training they had. They were shot on their way back to base the last evening they had together.

The shooter was 24 at the time and known as bit of a fanatic regarding soldiering. It was also known he was in a midst of mental break down.

So he got drunk, had a fight with the woman he loved, got furious, went home, got uniform, went to base, got gun, went on killing spree.

What would have happened if instead: 1 Someone who knew his mental state would have blown the whistle? 2 He did not have access to a gun?
-
But, yes, what if he had somebody he could talk with? One cannot sympathize with the act whatsoever, but there are important things...
-
He had close friends. I even know some of them. He had people to talk to but they probably said let's have a beer and cheer up.
-
Yes. Because we "patch up and carry on". Until those patches burst. :/ horrible story, those poor 7 families.

There would have been help provided to him, access to guns denied and possibly a bad fist fight down town. Seven people would not have died.

In my opinion most people who commit atrocities show signs of mental problems or extremism before they act. Somebody should blow the whistle
-
Cannot. That would unfairly assume people with illnesses are prone to lash out this way, which is the exception, not the rule
-
It's also unfair that blind people can't drive but such is life.
-
There will be too much people to control. You cannot put policeman to every suspect. Maybe the drones will solve this problem. And privacy..
-
Violence is violence. People will find other methods to reek havoc. Been doing it for thousands of years.
-
But in civilized countries there are much less havoc. There will be way to contain violent people without stepping on everyone's rights.
-
i hope
-
interesting use of the word "civilized". Human nature, and its frailty, sometimes does not fit nicely within ideals.
