Many wars and revolutions in history have been about the change of society. The Thirty Years War and Napoleon wars prime examples.

I think the Battle of Poltava put an end to the imperial ambitions of Sweden.

Not really. That was only the first step. The final came 100 years later with the battle of Sveaborg and the loss of Finland.

Yes. But a Swedish Empire would not have been sustainable. Too few of us. Now we focused on business and got rich instead.
