Many EU nations were either invaded or under a dictator within living memory. The UK wasn't. We don't get the need to merge
-
True, even more so in Sweden. The UK made a huge sacrifice in WWII though, which is in living memory.
-
true. (I know Sweden quite well). But the Battle of Britain mentality is strong. We fought them off and want to be left alone
-
Which is fine by me. What I don't understand is what sounds like demands from UK leadership. As if they direct EU's standpoints.
-
I think the EU bosses are hopping mad with us. We'd like to go gently but may put up a fight if not. Please can we slip away?
-
Considering what I read from the continent most would be pleased to just say Good Bye. But the U.K. wants a new agreement in place.
-
if we could free trade with EU single market it would be good. If not, a deal on autos for us and City access for EU at least

Many don't feel particularly European. But this isn't to do with loss of Empire. Respect for others & collaboration is good.
-
We want to collaborate with Europe as equals — just not be ruled by unaccountable eurocrats telling us what to do.
