NATO guarantees are backed by collective defence treaty. These are not empty words - viz. 9/11.

For its own security the US needs friends in Europe - Trump can't change that. NATO guards the friendship.

I agree that US needs allies in Europe but Trump is certainly about to change that. Trump is a moron after all.
