It should be stated clearly: The Syriza government has driven Greece into economic and political disaster w/o any benefits to the nation.

.@anders_aslund @Shefl well to be fair, #Greece was already there. #Syriza just sat in the car and shouted slogans

@AnMailleach @Shefl No Greece's recovery had started when Syriza came & brought about a new decline, which may become more catastrophic.

@anders_aslund @veitdengler Because before them everything was ok? We have this situation because Merkel was afraid to ask for a cut.

@buercher @veitdengler Initial fiscal adjustment was tiny=irresponsible, EU financing excessive & EU decisions slow=bad, but Syriza=disaster

@anders_aslund They give the people the impression there is a choice. Cost of the referendum 110 Million € #greece

@Bongo__Fury I agree. This is a meaningless referendum between a proposal no longer on the table & absurdity.

@anders_aslund Syriza promotes a toxic brand of cheap populism. But i would also argue that the troika created the Hydra monster.

@EmmanuelCeyte Yes the troika has discredited itself - too much of collective irresponsibility & EU is too weak in all its forms but ECB.

.@anders_aslund @IvoHDaalder History tells us that seldom are the causes of a disaster one-sided. Nobody will be exempt of the blame-game.

@anders_aslund @Shefl So, should the US balkanise the EU on E. Europe US dominated model ?

@anders_aslund @uli_speck Because Greece was not in an economic and political disaster before Syriza took power?

@anders_aslund Quite a simplistic statement for a seasoned economic researcher!

@anders_aslund @uli_speck not to play devil’s advocate, but sounds awfully similar to the effect the troika had.

@anders_aslund Greece absolutely at fault, but Eurozone allowed their entry knowing full-well the failings of Greek economy and politics.

@swbennett06 @anders_aslund I think point is not one side to blame, but total failure on part of Tsipras to govern in reality.

@OscarWandel @anders_aslund At the same time, domestic reality in Greece made accepting more of the same from Europe a no-go.

@swbennett06 @anders_aslund you can't deny that dithering about for better part of a decade makes it hard to feel sorry for them.

@OscarWandel @anders_aslund Syriza only in power since '12--Greece's problem far older and throughout entire political/economic system.

@swbennett06 @anders_aslund oh certainly! Tsipras' fault is that of not leveling expectations. Now he hides behind a referendum.
