    replace them w/ technology, or w/ higher-skilled workers who can earn the cost. Fact. All the exact *opposite* of what we want. Stop treating employers, no matter how big or wealthy, like charities. Saying you care, but only enough to make someone *else* pay, is hypocrisy.

    If we want to help those who can't get healthcare, who lack marketable skills, etc. (and we should), we need to pay for it somehow *as a society.* But tell employers to just give low-skilled people more money, and they will, more often than not: reduce their hours... (2/x)

    There is a long cultural tradition in America of trying to use employers as a means to help those who can't sustain themselves in the market. While well-intentioned, it is *deeply* flawed and counterproductive. (1/x)

    This aligns closest with what I've heard about Kavanaugh. Political theatre aside, great guy, well-respected by people of all kinds of political persuasions with strong legal educations. It's all become a damn circus.

    I deeply want to believe there is some 4D chess, evolutionary psychology, game theory, or whatever other kind of obscure but ultimately advantageous reason why so many people decide whom to vote for almost entirely based on how good a politician is at giving speeches.
