what do you want us (society) to do about fireworks? its literally unsolvable, if i was a detective how would i catch a fireworks setter offer in the first place where would i even start i dont even know where the fireworks went off at.

Nothing. That's not my point. My point is that kindly asking or wishing or wanting or preferring that these things subside wouldn't make them subside. People need limits to change behavior. Humans need boundaries.

agreed and the reality is that u can’t fix crime by policing interactions w police and prisons only make individual criminals “harder” all that police and prisons can accomplish is like perimeter work, like “keep the crime out of x,y,z areas”

and the reality is that every year we spend less on public services and less on education and less on infrastructure and more on police+prisons and more on corp+billionaire tax breaks and more on public subsidies for private capital projects

and despite that, the thing ur concerned with is some DA who did some little reforms at the DAs office (an institution that doesn’t contribute to a ‘safer’ tomorrow) that went too far and left too many cells slightly-less-overstuffed at the local corporate prison / money farm

i was literally put in jail because i marched for black lives and chesa boudins policies allowed me to not be held in confinement, thank you

i have a similar story abt the mid 2010s when i was in college in bk and got arrested for graffiti the night after trump won and i only wound up w/o a fin aid-destroying criminal record bc of recent reforms there if it’d been 2006 i would have a record and lost all my fin aid

the police in SF will literally try to ruin your life they are filled w/ such hatred for anyone who gets in their crosshairs its literally rabid, they attacked me on the street for no reason coming up behind me where i couldnt see them

ya when u live in a heavily policed (but slow response time) neighborhood u rly get to kno the police a whole new way.. i’m white and from the suburbs in upstate but ive lived in several neighborhoods in bk and always made friends w neighbors and learned sooo much abt police
