Same in Japan. In both countries, notably, the Allies made one of their main priorities overhauling journalism. In Japan MacArthur set up a fairness doctrine and rebuilt NHK into a pro-democracy outlet. In Germany the US *funded* a thousand new newspapers.
If this were Germany, they would have a national reckoning and develop public memorials to the victims of Republican fascist treason and homicidal failures. But it’s America. So over/under on how long till there’s a Hawley statue?

Japan did not do what Germany did in the aftermath of the war in terms of victims of fascism. They continue to deny all kinds of atrocities. They've had essentially one party rule for all but like 8 years since the war. They have a particularly virulent strain of right winger.
