The apotheosis of rendering government so ineffectual you can drown it in a bathtub is to undermine any belief that our leaders represent our will and thus have our consent to govern.

If enough people doubt that our government is legitimate, they will oppose aims like preventing, containing and providing publicly financed vaccines for this virus.

When billionaires say - meh, I don’t really care if my fellow Americans die I’m buying my own island - it sounds bad. But if those Americans decry publicly financed efforts to ensure we can get and stay well, the billionaires don’t have to say anything at all.
