They continue to choose him over democracy. The GOP is no longer democratic. They want to be the ruling party. They would follow him into an authoritarian takeover if they could.

Their aim has long been to undermine any faith in collective institutions (aka government) and destroying the very notion that “we the people” select and therefore grant consent to be governed is the most efficient means.
