Yeah, we don't do that in leftie California.
I'm a Californian. :) But even here registration isn't automatic and we don't make election day a holiday. Mail in is GREAT. But even we can do better.

Totally agree that the concept of registration is stupid (many other countries don't require it). However, Calif. does have automatic registration when you get a driver's license or ID at the DMV, which is a good start.

fair. I got spoiled by living abroad with exposure to compulsory voting (Australia), publicly funded elections, voting day off. (And let's not even get started on universal healthcare...)
