For days now, Republicans baited Dem leaders into condemning violence - into a “bothsiderism” that lends credence to the notion of widespread urban unrest and decay.
Polling shows that voters largely aren't buying Trumpian claims; they know he is the source of the violence, it’s escalation and duration. But in their rush to reflexively reassure the “moderate middle,” Dems actually muddle this understanding.
And all the while, we hit pause on *our* story. On what we stand for and will deliver.
Trump lies about lies that he lies about lyingly. And we know that. But somehow when he offers us strategic advice - that “suburban housewives” are terrified - we are convinced this is so.
