The more research done on this the better. Repubs do tons more research on messaging than Dems. I'd bet they've researched the exact ads they do & found them effective. Effectiveness of ads varies depends on the group targeted & many other factors. It's hard to generalize.
If ads were actually persuading soft Trump supporters, sure. Our persuasion trials show ads that work (1) don’t look obv political (3) offer permission structure for people to reckon w having been wrong, changing mind. Many LP ads likely backlash due to viewer defensiveness.
