A little story: The first full day my husband was in America, I was showing him the new city where we would live. We were in the Pioneer Square in Portland, OR. Utterly baffled, he asked where the "parque central" was.
And when I gestured that we were in it, he said "the center of your town is a mall?" "Yes," I responded, pointing "this is our cathedral - it is called Nordstroms. We pray there with our tiny plastic bibles. They are called 'visa' and 'Master Card.'"
What does it mean when families are spending unprecedented time together? When neighbors are talking on stoops? When more of us are out taking walks? America is open.
Consider what it means that these things don't count, don't matter. That they are deemed as the opposite of and impediments to the business of America.
