Maybe teenagers get a bad rap not because of who they are but because of who we are when we parents them.

I was a much more patient person in my late 20s when parenting a toddler. I have become - to my shame - a more anxious and reactive one and happen to have a brand new teen now.

Well, speaking for myself, I was an awful, know-it-all teenager. Can't blame my parents at all. Classic black sheep. Fortunately, my sons didn't follow in my footsteps (although their mother probably deserves more credit than me on that score)

So far - day one! - my 13 year old is still his reasonable lovely self. But I see my own reactivity (spillover of reaction to world) more acute than before. Need to work on me. :)
