Today I learned that the research behind the "bystander effect" and actually most of the research that forms the basis of Western psychology is based on tests conducted only on young white males at American universities.

Imagine thinking results from tests conducted only on young white middle-and-upper-class Western males are a good way to inform insights about, and form policy decisions for, all humans. The caucasity of it all.

In fact, it’s such a widely recognized bias it has an acronym: W(estern, I’d add white) E(ducated) from I(ndustrialized) R(oct) D(eveloped - cause that’s the nonsense label for it) countries. We draw conclusions about “human nature” from aberrations and call them norms.
