20 years ago I worked for the coalition for the homeless in New York. I'd love to see how "the impossibility of being poor in US" worked in her mind as all i saw was structural barriers left and right to ensure a poor class remained in place.

She would agree, that's basically her thesis in Nickled and Dimed -- that all is set up to make it impossible to survive let alone get ahead. That's why her cultural imperialism is so disappointing.
